about

PRETENDING (featuring Shane Endsley) – each of these verses essentially is about a relationship with someone in my family and about myself. The view point is from their’s, for example: verse 1, that person in your life who occasionally self sabotages and checks out and doesn’t grab the opportunity by the horns and run with it, procrastination/motivation?? But also my own lack luster feeling at times and some desires and wishes I have that remain unspoken, because when communicated they get mis-interpreted. Verse 2, mostly about that person who cares wAYYYYYYY too much about what people think but also about myself because I was the same and absolutely hated that pre-pubescent age so much. And come on, trying to talk to this person is like talking to a walk that disintegrates, they’ll actually leave the room, lol! Here we are couped up together among countless other families, partners, individuals. “Why pay for distance” – like here we are all in the same house avoiding one another at times. But at the same time everyone need’s their space. And you’re paying in more ways than one – like this is also about paying to stay away, be away, paying in others ways by being prevented from seeing people we love, and paying in intimacy with your lover because you still feel disconnected while close.

In general, how this isolation has affected/enhanced/brought out our weaknesses and vulnerability and therefore our faults come to a head more often, more room for conflict, because we are faced with ourselves each day.

lyrics

V1 - All the love but half the fight
The dreams that linger float through the night
But you don’t listen, you don’t care
You’d trade it in for another day

V2 - What has got you so afraid
Remember this, it’s just a phase
But you don’t listen, you look away
You’d trade it in not to ever have to say

CH - Anything at all
You’d pay big money just to stall
But your currency is meaningless to me
Why pay for distance when talk is free

V3 - …..Why so unclear ?
Pretending that you aren’t even here
It’s getting old then new again
I’d trade it in not to ever have to say
